Ask Sponsor ServicesQ. Does CFCA work with sponsored members from various faith backgrounds?

A. Yes. Founded by lay Catholics and grounded in the Gospel call to serve the poor, CFCA works with people from all faith traditions. Among our more than 300,000 sponsored members are Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and followers of indigenous beliefs.

Our mission is to build community and foster culturally diverse relationships based on mutual respect, understanding and support without religious or other prejudice.

When we create a true exchange of cultures, understanding and love as equals, we are alleviating not just material poverty, but we are also creating the bonds of lasting peace and unity among people of diverse faiths and backgrounds.

I understand you work with people from different faith backgrounds to provide for their physical needs, however, are you also tending to their spiritual needs? Does the program works towards spreading (or in some cases, introducing) the gospel? If so, how?
      Thank you for your response.

Kayce, thanks for your question. CFCA was founded by lay Catholics, and our work with people living in poverty is motivated by and based on Catholic social teaching.

Our organization maintains Christian values as its core and as our guiding principles. Our main focus is on serving the poor, and while we will certainly offer the teachings of Christ to those who seek them, we also respect the beliefs and cultural traditions of our sponsored members of all faiths.

        Thank you,
        ~Sponsor Services

Thanks very much for letting us know of CFCA’s commitment to respect the beliefs and traditions of people of all faiths. I wasn’t sure whether or not this would be your philosophy, but I’m so relieved to hear that it is, as it makes me feel much better about being a sponsor. I know many Christians wish to propagate their faith, but in developing countries, in the past, treating non-Christians with respect wasn’t the norm in so many places, and it did much harm, as I’m sure you know. Please be assured that there are sponsors who have deep appreciation for those who humbly serve the poor in the spirit of Christ, without telling them they should abandon the faith of their ancestors.
